Visionary Leaders

Our Honorees

The 2017 Pink Runway will pay tribute to our visionary clinical and lay leaders, Dr. Samuel Kopel and Erminia Rivera.

Dr. Samuel Kopel, Chief Medical Officer at Maimonides Medical Center, joined the staff in 1978, later becoming Division Director of Hematology & Oncology. Over the years, he has held a number of leadership positions, including 15 years as Medical Director. Board certified in Medical Oncology and Hematology, Dr. Kopel is a principal investigator in cancer-related studies, and a published contributor of many peer-reviewed articles in his field. It was Dr. Kopel who first identified the need for a full-service cancer center in Brooklyn, and his vision that was realized when the Maimonides Cancer Center opened in 2005.

Erminia Rivera, a Trustee of Maimonides Medical Center, is the owner of Park Avenue Building and Roofing Supplies LLC. She also serves as Chair of The Gilbert Rivera Charitable Foundation, established to continue the legacy of charitable giving that her late husband Gilbert began as a leader in business and in his community. In November 2011, Erminia dedicated the magnificent Gilbert Rivera Pavilion at the Maimonides Cancer Center, which houses cancer services that include gynecologic oncology, colorectal surgery, urology and the Breast Center.

Join us on the Pink Runway as we proudly pay tribute to Sam and Erminia for their vision, leadership and life-saving work.
